GITANA OPEN 60 ON FOILS: BEAUTIFULL

I am convinced: the foils do work even on very nasty weather and the Open 60's (IMOCA) continue to lead in what regards significant technological monohull advances as they have been doing for some decades. Just beautiful the movie, some of this year's best sailing footage.

  1. Seeing the video I couldn´t avoid thinking about how the semispherical bow would work in such a beast since it looks as the boat is loosing so much speed here because of the knife shaped bow...

    1. Yes, when I saw the movie I thought that they have to got more buoyancy on that bow. There are many ways to get that, some of them with increasing volume (semispherical bow) but also with sharp chines on the bow. All solutions are compromises and there are disadvantages with any of the solutions but as it is it is not only a question of losing speed but of discomfort (with all that water coming in) and safety: That bow can dig in at speed on a real big wave with catastrophic consequences.
