NEW SALONA 38PC AND 38PR

Thanks to Anders, that call my attention for it, some images of the new Salona 38PC.  It is designed by Cossutti, the one that designed  the NM 38 and that means a boat that probably will be very competitive in handicap racing (ORCI and IRC). Avery good looking sailboat too!

Regarding cruising that will mean a boat not very different from the actual 38, that by the way was nominated by Sail magazine for boat of the year (like the 35 and 44), but a bit better specially downwind. A boat maximized to sail upwind and with very light winds: my kind of boat ;-)

They will have a performance cruiser version (PC) and a performance racing version (PR) and probably that denomination, like on the Dehler R is a bit misleading since the PR it will be probably just an upgraded epoxy boat with a lead keel, more draft and better specs. Sure they will also make a true racing version for the clients that want to make top racing but then it will be a boat based on the PR with higher specifications, like basalt/carbon bulkheads, carbon spars and even special keels. Anyway, very curious to see the hull dimensions and the B/D ratio, even if I don't expect nothing very different from the actual 38. Two completely different boats, not sharing the same hull with the same basic name: Salona 38. That's quite unusual.

  1. Nice looking and finally some decent hull windows. Only two straight benches in the interior though, strictly for two persones then in my book. Will be interesting to see the statistics.

Regarding th RM 1050 I must say it is getting more and more interesting and without getting into all aspects of it let's evaluate the specs. 78sgm sail at 4500 kg. Torpedo keels with almost 50% keel weight. In addition to that water ballast tanks high up and out at 260 liter. Deep rudder and compared to RM 1200 and the newer RM 1060 more narrow aft part so better grip. And the new 1060 does not plane either so why get the drawback of the ultra wide stern without the main benefit.

All tests I have read are pretty positive in regards to performane. And concept wise I find it very appealing in many aspects and the right soze for me

  2. No contest that the RM 1050 /and 1060) are very interesting boats allowing lots of interior space, storage a great outside visibility, seaworthiness and a decent speed. Great little voyage boat and suited to cruise extensively. However in what regards speed and feeling at the wheel (tiller), the Opium 39 and the RM 1050 are in different worlds. The RM 1060 is a bit faster, except maybe in light winds were none of them is particularity good.

Regarding the Salona 38 I believe you wanted to say two cabins and no two persons? Where do you saw the layout?

  3. No I meant two persones. Or how do three persones watch TV in comfort on two straight sofas? And if you spend all weekends and all summer, from April to October with kids aboard you must have a working TV setup....

You have the layout on my initial link http://www.seilas.no/wip4/detail.epl?id=2189797&cat=4914

    1. LOL, you mean it only suits two persons...if they watch television on a boat!!! I never watch television on the boat. I see a lot on the winter but when I am on the boat I read and listen to music, kind of a different mind set. I never would understand what you mean if you had not explained :-) This only proves how different the needs on a boat are even in what regards interiors. I like the interior of the 38 that provides two good sea berths.
